What we do

Remodeling Services We Offer in Somerset County

Somerset County covers two very different kinds of house. Bridgewater, Hillsborough, Montgomery and Branchburg filled in with large colonials from the 1980s onward, generously sized but built to a builder’s spec and now ready for the finishes to catch up. Somerville, Bound Brook, Manville and Raritan are older, denser boroughs where the houses predate the war and the work is closer to restoration. Legion Build is a design-build remodeler, which means one company designs the job, pulls the permits and builds it — and you deal with Adam from the first site visit through the final inspection.

Custom kitchen remodel with an island, range and wood countertop in New Jersey

Kitchen Remodeling

Builder-grade kitchens in Bridgewater and Hillsborough colonials have the space already; what they need is real cabinetry, stone counters and a layout that opens to the family room. In the older boroughs it is usually a full gut back to the studs.

Remodeled bathroom with a frameless glass shower, round mirror and light wood vanity

Bathroom Remodeling

Primary suites in the newer developments were sized well and finished cheaply, and a tub-to-shower conversion changes how the whole room works. Older homes near Somerville often have one bath that has to be rebuilt from the joists up.

Finished basement family room with a sectional, area rug and finished staircase

Basement Finishing

Nearly every colonial built here after 1980 sits on a full basement with good ceiling height, which makes it the least expensive floor you will ever add. Framing, egress, moisture control, bathrooms and wet bars, finished to code.

Two-story home addition on a New Jersey house with new siding and windows

Home Additions

Family rooms, primary suites and in-law suites on lots that usually have room to take them. We handle the foundation, the roof tie-in and the mechanical work the addition sets off.

Custom composite deck with black railing behind a New Jersey home

Custom Decks

Composite and cedar decks, multi-level builds, stairs and railings, sized and footed for the grade behind your house. Somerset lots often fall away at the back, which is a design question before it is a build question.

Covered porch with white columns, composite decking and a beadboard ceiling

Porches

Covered, screened and three-season porches, built new or rebuilt where the posts and framing have gone. On a Somerville or Bound Brook porch the columns are usually structural, not decorative.

Custom pergola over a paver patio in a New Jersey backyard

Pergolas

Cedar, aluminum and louvered-roof pergolas, engineered for New Jersey snow load and wind rather than assembled from a kit, and set on footings below frost depth.

Sunroom addition with a wall of windows and a vaulted ceiling

Sunrooms

Screened, three-season and four-season sunrooms — framed and finished like the rest of the house, not bolted on as a prefab kit, and detailed so the roof line reads as original.

What it costs

What Remodeling Costs in Somerset County

These are the ranges we work from across Somerset County. Treat them as planning figures. The split in this county is wide: a 1990s colonial in Montgomery or Branchburg is often a finishes-and-layout job at the lower end of a range, while a pre-war house in Somerville or Manville can need the wiring, the plumbing and sometimes the framing brought forward before anything cosmetic goes back. Every project gets priced after we have seen the house.

Permits & approvals

Building Permits in Somerset County, Town by Town

Every one of these is a construction permit job, not a handshake. Somerset’s municipalities all work under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code, but what they want at the counter differs town to town. Here is what each construction office publishes, checked September 2026. Confirm with your own town before you plan around it — and if you hire us, this is our job, not yours.

Common questions

Somerset County Remodeling FAQs

Do I need a permit to remodel a house in Somerset County?

Almost certainly. Structural work, electrical, plumbing and mechanical changes all require a construction permit under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code, filed with your own municipality rather than the county. Ordinary maintenance and minor work can be exempt, but the line is narrower than most homeowners expect — and several Somerset towns want a zoning permit approved before the construction permit is even accepted. We prepare the drawings, file the permit and meet the inspectors.

How much does it cost to remodel a home in Somerset County?

It depends far more on the house than on the town. A kitchen runs roughly $25,000 to $85,000 and up, a bathroom roughly $18,000 to $55,000 and up, and a finished basement $45 to $130 per square foot. Additions run $250 to $450 per square foot and up. A 1990s colonial in Montgomery or Branchburg often lands at the lower end because the bones are sound; a pre-war house in Somerville or Manville can need wiring and plumbing brought forward first. We give you a written number after seeing the space.

Do you work in the older boroughs as well as the newer developments?

Yes, and they are genuinely different jobs. Bridgewater, Hillsborough, Montgomery and Branchburg are largely 1980s-onward colonials where the structure is fine and the finishes are ready to be replaced. Somerville, Bound Brook, Raritan and Manville are pre-war housing on tight lots where a remodel usually means opening walls and finding out what is behind them. We price and schedule those two differently, and we tell you which one you have before you commit.

How long does a remodel take in Somerset County?

A bathroom is usually a few weeks on site, a kitchen longer, and an addition longer still. The part we control least is permit review, which varies by municipality and by how busy the office is. We give you a realistic schedule with the quote, and we tell you where the risk sits rather than promising a date we cannot hold.
